Barasoain Weekly Reflection for 24 – 30 June 2018
“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.”
– Colossians 3:15
An important value that seems to get lost in today’s fast-paced world is appreciation. We often forget to give importance to what others have done for us maybe because it shows our weaknesses or we just do not remember or want others to help us.
Helping is a two way process. We can help because others accept our help. In a world that is full of pride, accepting such help can be both a sign of weakness and failure. As a result, help may be rejected or not appreciated because it exposes one’s downside.
In a similar way, God can save us only if we are able to accept our sinfulness and His gift of salvation.
While it is nice to help, it is also good that we sometimes accept others’ assistance to us. We do not have everything in this world and our capabilities will reach its limits in one point or the other. God has given us others to help us when ourselves fail us.
Appreciation is the best response when “thank you” is not enough.
