Gratitude

Barasoain Weekly Reflection for 7 – 13 January 2018

2015_01_07_10_07_50

“That my glory may sing your praise and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks to you forever!”

Psalm 30:12

The day is 9th of January, and people in our community is flocking towards Quiapo Church in Manila. Famous for its dark-colored image of Jesus Christ carrying the cross, the feast day that is celebrated on that day is an important event that is much awaited. People normally carry their hopes, thanks and petitions that their wishes will be granted.

People thank God for the petitions that have been granted. Though we are privileged that we can call to our Lord in heaven for our needs, it is also important that we show our gratitude for the prayers. Devotees of the image of the Black Nazarene in Quiapo Church show their thanks  through joining the procession or staying in the church but we can also do it in our simple ways. Attending a church mass for thanksgiving and prayers will do, though some will donate or give something to others to share in their blessings and happiness.

We have many ways to show our thanks and gratitude to God. Whatever means we have, always remember that He loves us not because of what we have done but rather because of what He is.

Our praises and deeds are never enough to show our thanks to God.
