Out-of-Box Experience

Barasoain Weekly Reflection for 21 – 27 May 2017

“And as Jesus returned, the people welcomed Him, for they had all been waiting for Him.”

Luke 8:40

One thing that I am quite amused in the past few years of my computing is the out-of-box experience (screens that greet the user on first boot) when I freshly install Windows, Mac or Linux operating systems on any computer. As a technician, refreshing or reformatting my own, or others’ device/s is a routine I do. Microsoft, Apple and Linux developers have really done well to welcome users after the installation of their operating system in a computer.

Which brings me to God. We have welcomed Christmas, Easter and other important routine religious occasions with vigor. But what if, tomorrow, or the other day, God suddenly shows up, are we ready to welcome Him?

As servants of Christ, we should be ready any moment to welcome Him for we do not know when the exact day He is coming back. What we can do is prepare, that by the time He appears we can vigorously welcome Him in the same way our computers welcome us when we first boot them. After all, we all had a long journey in this life.

Yourself is the best welcoming gift to Christ.
