Barasoain Weekly Reflection for 16 – 21 January 2017
“For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.”
I have a friend who was until now is still regretful of what happened to him two years ago. Not only he was dumped, but he was also being cheated right all along. His experience is not pleasant, so I cannot totally blame him of being regretful of what he has given and done.
Such experiences leave a lasting mark on our lives. Though I understand his plight, I also believe that there should also be a time for forgiveness.
Forgiveness is giving not only the offending party the chance to make up from everything s/he has done, but it also gives oneself a peace of mind. There may be times that forgiving is difficult because of what has been done. On the other hand, it will also be difficult to continue keeping anger towards them since it consumes us in our hatred.
Today, Jesus Christ asks us to forgive those who may have done wrong against us, as He himself had forgiven us on the cross.
Forgiving is not just giving a chance to others, but also giving yourself peace.
