Barasoain Weekly Reflection for 20 – 26 November 2016

“But the Lord said to Samuel, ‘Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.'”

1 Samuel 16:7

One thing you will find nowadays in pharmaceuticals is the proliferation of slimming products. Even televisions, radios and web advertisements are teeming with such endorsements. To further stress their product, they show situations where fat people are at a disadvantage.

These commercials of being fat maybe forgiven if they point out the health risks of being as such. However, most of them focus more on the visual aspect.

Jesus Christ did not show any preference when it comes to physical appearance. Whether a person is healthy, sick, handicapped or even filthy is welcome to accept Christ as his/her savior and receive the gift of eternal life. He is even seen healing those who are sick, showing that these people need healing or understanding just like an ordinary person.

Whatever you may look like now doesn’t matter to Christ, as He does not value us by our physical appearance but rather by what’s in our heart.

“No amount of physical beauty will ever be as valuable as a beautiful heart.”- Saad Tasleem
