Friendship Matters

UntitledBarasoain Weekly Reflection for 7 – 13 February 2016

“A friend loves at all times.”

Proverbs 12:12

There is this a famous story in the Philippine folklore wherein there is a monkey and a turtle. The monkey fooled the turtle in their deal in a banana tree. In return, the turtle planted spikes at the bottom of the banana tree, when the monkey was hurt because of the spikes at the bottom of the tree, he threw the turtle into the river only to find out that he actually returned turtle to his habitat.

Many times in our lives we will meet a monkey wherein their intent is not to help but to take advantage of us. Initially they will appear as good-mannered people with good intentions and with no ill will to us. But once they see the chance or they got what they want, their true colors show.

Finding a friend is easy, but finding a friend that is loyal, honest, sincere and caring is difficult. It is not easy to find one and we may stumble along the way and we might face disagreements and fights.

Luckily our God is not like that, He is always there loving us, all with pure intentions of love and care for us. However, He did warn us of those who are too showy on the outside to hide the filth of what is inside; but He did warn us of the dangers of dealing with them and to avoid their practice of looking religiously without walking their talk.

As we face this coming week, let us ask God for guidance and wisdom and to guide us in our lives.

Friendship is tested during the worst days.
