Barasoain Weekly Reflection for 24 – 30 January 2016

speak-the-same-language

“There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.”

Proverbs 12:18

Most of the time, our body moves in different directions, some of these movements may help or even hurt others. But no other body part does this better than our tongue.

Words that come out from it are very powerful; they can bring peace or destroy a relationship. What makes it worse is that unlike actions, words mark our personality and they cannot be easily erased. Words that were used to hurt a person will have a lasting impact longer than physical pain.

We are taught to guard our words, watch our tongue and cleanse our minds. For it is in speaking were our personality, behavior and thoughts are shown to others. There have been countless stories where we have seen how powerful our tongues are and what can they do. The words that they have said marked their relationship and has become the trademark of themselves.

Today, as we start another week, let us ask God for help in guarding our words. As we speak, we need to be careful. Let’s use our tongues to improve, encourage and build relationships between believers and restrain the words that come out of our mouth. Sometimes, silence may be the best way.

Every time you speak, your mind is on parade.
