Have Faith First

Barasoain Weekly Reflection for 22 – 28 November 2015

“Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.”

– 1 John 5:5

There are days in our lives when we are faced with several problems in our lives that sometimes they tend to crush us to the ground. After all we are human beings and have limitations, right?

This is exactly what Jeremy has faced. Within a space of two months, he lost his family in a car accident from their vacation. Two weeks after the accident, his house burned and along with it important documents that are necessary for the processing of insurance claims for his deceased family. To make matters worse, he lost his job due to absenteeism and inattentiveness. At that time, Jeremy contemplated with drastic measures to alleviate his suffering.

However, in this case, a police intervened with his plans to jump. He was taken into the nearest police station and with that experience, his life took a turn. After his release, he was offered a job as a janitor in a nearby store.

It is in this job he found a lost bag with money amounting to PHP 20 000 000.00. He returned it and received money enough to restart his life. At present, Jeremy is a fast food restaurant manager.

In our lives in this world, we will continually face troubles, struggles and challenges. These challenges, though unpleasant, is important in developing our personality and character. As followers and believers of Christ, let us think in our lives that, though there are moments in it that we face troubles, faith keeps us anchored in the storms of life. Jesus as the hard rock has shown to us that God is there in our lives and He is watching on us keeping us from being crushed in life’s problems.

Faith is an important factor in our relationship with God. It is the very foundation of our spiritual lives and it guides as we live our lives to the fullest.

Faith is manifested when we believe first before our skepticisms.
